Friday’s Paw-some Pairs!

Sometimes pets come to Animal Haven in pairs and sometimes an inseparable pair is made once two animals are introduced at our Adoption Center. Below are two examples of some of the “paw-some” pairs here at Animal Haven.

Hy-Vee Donation Drive Comes Up Roses!

From July 12th until July 20th, the Hy-Vee store on 135th in Overland Park hosted a donation drive for Animal Haven in conjunction with the store’s Million Stem Rose Sale. The donation drive was a great success, collecting many in-kind donations necessary to the shelter and raising more than $1,000 to help the homeless pets at Animal Haven. Adopt-A-Cat Month

Approximately 4 million cats find there way into shelters each year! Give these fun and fabulous pets a second chance at life; adopt a shelter cat this month! All month we will be showcasing our wonderful feline residents.

Moon Pie has been here at Animal Haven a long time. We are hoping that June will be Moon Pie’s month to find a lifelong, caring home.

Adoption Drive A Success!

Our Spring Adoption Drive, this past weekend, was quite a success. Although we did not reach our goal of finding lifelong, caring homes for 150 pets, many did find their second chance at life! 63 pets found their match made in haven and 11 more are going home today!

We still have lots of wonderful pets that are in need of a new home. So stop by today and meet them!

Help us spread the word about our Spring Adoption Drive! This weekend we will be finding some wonderful pets, wonderful homes. Tell your friends and family to stop by and see us! Our goal is to find homes for 150 pets, that is half of our shelter residents. We can’t do it without your support!

A Dog Named Christmas – Foster A Lonely Pet for the Holidays

We need your help to make this holiday season a special one for our pets. Animal Haven is participating in the A Dog Named Christmas – Foster A Lonely Pet for the Holidays program. The purpose of this program is to place adoptable pets into appropriate foster homes for all or part of the holiday season. Most of the pets qualifying for this program are altered, vaccinated and free of any medical conditions preventing adoption. Some puppies or kittens in the program may still need to be spayed or neutered.

Homes participating in the “A Dog Named Christmas” foster care program have the option to adopt their foster pet after the foster period is complete. Homes participating in this special foster care program also have the option to continue in Animal Haven’s traditional foster care program after training if they so choose.

Application & Participation

To participate in the program, applications must be received by Animal Haven no later than end of business on Friday, December 20, 2009. Applications can be picked up at Animal Haven or at any information session. Applications must be completed in full prior to processing. Decisions are made on applications as they are received.

While in foster care, Animal Haven will provide food and other items as determined by the needs of the specific pet. Each pet will be sent to their home with a care package. Foster parents will receive any background information on the specific pet and will sign a foster care agreement. At this time an appointment will also be scheduled for return of the pet. While in foster care, Animal Haven will ask you to take notes on your family’s experiences with the pet. These notes will be viewed by potential adopters to help place your foster pet in the best life long caring home.

Can’t Foster? Here are some other ways to help.

Spread the word. Tell your friends, family and coworkers about Animal Haven’s holiday foster program. It is a great way to do something special for the holidays and an opportunity to meet a new best friend.
Donate. Animal Haven is always in need of fleece blankets, towels, toys, treats and other pet products for our four legged friends. Money is great too. On average, it costs almost $200 to care for a single pet for a week. We have between 300 and 400 pets in our care at any time.
Host a charitable holiday party. Instead of gag gifts and party favors, have guests bring donations for Animal Haven. It can be a great way to have fun and make a difference.
Volunteer. We always need more help at the shelter. You can make a difference by socializing cats, exercising dogs, helping with adoptions and more.

Dogtoberfest, a success!!!

This cool, fall weekend brought out tons of warm hearts to Animal Haven’s first ever adopt-a-thon, Dogtoberfest. 165 pets found their lifelong, caring homes; clearing out over 40% of our shelter.

We are also proud to announce that many of the pets that had been longer term residents here at Animal Haven are now cuddly and warm in their new homes.

“Muttley” is one of our adoptable dogs who was rescued following a house fire in Olathe. He came to us needing a lot of medical attention… most of his hair was missing, his teeth were in terrible shape, his nails were absurdley overgrown and his ear needed multiple surgeries. You can watch the video below for his whole story.
