Adoption Center closed for Labor Day

Animal Haven’s Adoption Center will be closed for Labor Day. Donation will be accepted at out Lost Pet Center located at 9827 W. 67th Street, right across the street from the Adoption Center. Our volunteers are still welcome to come by to walk dogs, do laundry and all other regular activities.

This past Saturday was amazing at Animal Haven. Tons of wonderful folks came out to adopt a new furry family member. Cars were parked down our driveway! We are so excited to mention that 27 wonderfully deserving pets found their match made in haven! A big thank you to all of you that stopped by the shelter!

Animal Haven Accepts Pets From KAHD

On Wednesday, Animal Haven accepted 20 adult cats and 21 kittens from an overcrowded shelter in Kansas. The number of pets in the shelter increased again today when 10 Cocker Spaniel puppies were also transferred to Animal Haven by the Kansas Animal Health Department after being seized from a now defunct breeding facility. All of the cats, kittens and puppies have been assessed by Animal Haven’s medical team, have been vaccinated, spayed or neutered, microchipped and many will be available for adoption beginning today, Friday, September 3rd.

Donations of canned cat food are needed to help care for the additional cats and kittens in the shelter and can be dropped off at Animal Haven’s Lost Pet Center, located at 9827 W. 67th Street in Merriam, KS between 11:00am and 7:00pm daily.

Due to this large influx of adult cats, Animal Haven is extending the “Summer Cat-stravaganza” adoption special for an additional week and waiving all adoption fees for adult cats now through September 12, 2010.

Pets Around Town Photo Contest Winners

Congratulations to the winners of Animal Haven’s “Pets Around Town” online photo contest!

Marlon is the beloved 6 year old son of Jenny McIlroy. He is a Cairn Terrier who Jenny adopted through Colonel Potter Cairn Rescue Network 5 years ago. Jenny says Marlon is beautiful and knows it! He uses that beauty to distract Jenny as he gets away with devilish, terrier antics. She says she spends a lot of time exorcising his demons, but she wouldn’t have it any other way!

Molly, daughter of Marsha Harmon, is an Animal Haven alum. Her family says Molly is very smart, quickly graduating from basic obedience training to learn how to speak on command. Her hobbies include chasing rabbits and squirrels, getting belly rubs and sun bathing. She is best friends with her canine sister Zoey!

Animal Haven Accepts 28 Cats From the Kansas Animal Health Dept.

Animal Haven is in need of donations to help care for 28 cats and kittens seized by the State of Kansas Animal Health Department from an elderly woman’s home in Western Kansas. None of the cats had been spayed or neutered by their caretaker so the colony grew quickly. Animal Haven accepted 22 adult cats and 6 kittens, several of which have injuries and need significant medical attention before they are ready for adoption. Monetary donations are needed to help us care for these cats, as well as the other 220 homeless animals at Animal Haven. You can donate online or donations can be dropped off at our Adoption Center located at 9800 W. 67th Street in Merriam, KS between 12:00pm and 8:00pm Wednesday through Friday, and 10:00am – 6:00pm Saturday and Sunday.

Hy-Vee Donation Drive Comes Up Roses!

From July 12th until July 20th, the Hy-Vee store on 135th in Overland Park hosted a donation drive for Animal Haven in conjunction with the store’s Million Stem Rose Sale. The donation drive was a great success, collecting many in-kind donations necessary to the shelter and raising more than $1,000 to help the homeless pets at Animal Haven. What a Wonderful Night of Ham-Bingo!

Animal Haven had a great time with Melinda Ryder and the rest of the Hamburger Mary’s crew at our charity bingo night last night! BIG thanks to everyone who came out to support our mission and help the homeless pets in our shelter. The night was a huge success and we hope we can do it again in the future! Animal Haven had a wonderful time at our Paw-ty in July last Saturday and we hope you did too! Thanks to everyone who came out despite the sweltering heat.
